Dear Sir Tomlinson
It is really nice to be introduced- and I hear the recent dubai educator summit https://educationandskillsforum.org/speakers/ was probably the most valuable one ever if my father was around to value youth
Because my daughter was born in washington DC, mostofa has mainly be helping me out of .london in the last 5 years of my fathers life and the 6 since
Actually at my fathers last public birthday party in 2008, 2 years before his death we discovered sadly that there isnt one person in power at The Economist or of his former peers or mentees that actually understood how he analysed the futures - which from 1972 when he first saw students testing online learning networks, he saw as ending in a race to gain or lose sustainability- as a systems analyst big brotherdom was one likely outcome; the bottom up open elearning futures which we could also call little sisterdom the other exponential outcome
i think the systems narrative of my fathers key curriculum Entrepreneurial Revolution its mathematically quite simple - every 7 years since 1946 we have doubled spends on communications and computing that can either advertise (pied piper) us to hell, or open learn youth action networks back to the best of times; if that maths is right it means by 2030 we be spending 4000 times more than in 1946 on what could be learning communally with anyone apps and open space systems, reducing degrees of separation on life-saving information to the minimum ;
but with two additional economic catch 22s - first if we are spending all that much more on money and time, then costs of other life saving services eg basic health should be coming down; that was why dad wrote a survey on search for cheaper healthcare in 1984 at the same time as writing up the 2025 report- based on 12 years of leadership interviews around the world on whether the future of the net generation would lead to exponential sustainability- and which borderless under 30s would need to lead- father always projected young chinese womnen would need to be sustainability's most innovative collaboration entrepreneur agents because half the world lives on the 1% of the planet with 3000 miles of beijing- and partly because he believed the visibly celebrated values of young females determine the next generation of any culture
second we need a maths and currencies that trade way above sum as knowledge multiplying in use (and natures gifts like solar) can instead of being based on zero sum scarcities of thing consumption
to father the least probable 2030 of all would be in some in between state still reversible from losing sustainability
If you know of anyone who might still want to understand the urgency to youth of my fathers way of mapping i would always be happy to try to connect
In UK we have some good maps growing in Glasgow
Since Adrian Cadbury died not anyone I really know in your region; there was one outstanding NHS lady about 13 years ago but I think she has moved on
In London its really only the networks of Lord Sainsbury's daughter Sarah Butler Sloss that I know I ma at home in;
whats not helped by the anonymous journalism of the economist is offering any one the freedom to to look at my fathers body of work and see how different it is from macroeconomics of the biggest; with dads last articles in 2008 he tried to help nobel laureate dr yunus and youth understand the consequences of subprime but it turned out yunus got marooned in losing his own grameen bank to political chicanery
when it comes to the open educational world I start every year by asking what new around www.BRAC.net and its partners; why dont people like khan academy partner with brac on 17 sustainability curricula; why are there so many blocks in education systems these days with livelihoods of youth; as it happens i am accompanying some of the sharpest young chinese minds to tour brac next week with mostofa - and it sounded as if dubai is the right p;lace to start linking a club of people who believe the education system, in most places need total transformation if those inder 30s are going to freely co-produce their sustainability goals
I do look for advice particularly in euerope and usa; one movement we are partnering is chuck vollmer's job creation analysis www.jobenomics.com and partner cable tv network that starts with the usa - takes each market- says how could we make Small/Medium Enterprises thrive again in that market and create jobs; the aim is to make that a global channel where we go interview all educators with job creating system transformations
Love to know what you are doing and if we could come over and tour what you see as getting better in education consequences on youth livelihoods; i feel the next few years are likely top see the last tipping points
'
sincerely
