GAMES – exploring world of exponential opportunities & threats since 1759

Imagine if every student and teacher had a pack of playing cards –stimulating the most inspiring Q&A -
how would you (as parent, teacher or child) help search out most trusted players and alumni networks pivotal to  connecting 21st C youth with spending lives
TO BECOME: individually and globally across nearly 8 billion peoples the pioneering sustainability development goals (see economistrefugee.com) generation?.

 Different packs of playing cards would value exchanging diversely local and global development priorities  most  urgent to the 2020s and beyond- whether you and those you love most are selectively concerned with climate or some other evolutionary adaptation, socially, ecologically or economically. In assembling a pack for a first time I prefer to try and add threes at a time (not essential but here’s a start to checkout)

3 questions Smith started asking which are still brainstormed to this day:

• how do communities design the most transparent markets so everyone works hard at doing the most moral and valued work and play -what some call Smith's Precept of the invisible (or intangibles) hand)
• what should an island nation prepare as a world leader if its human gravity revolves round less than 1% of all people and less than 0.1% of natural resources. How will it postively face up to a time when 5% of people rapidly emigrate to a new land -continental in proportion with many thousand times more natural resources to cultivate across generations
• if that first mover nation remains teacher to the world through its language, moral codes and historical experts how should its system of education celebrate being as adaptable as that worldwide responsibility will exponentially demands

Watt and his alumni immediately asked questions which have multiplied exponential value. We will see some other players argue that exponentially multiplying systems are devilish in detailing because they can compound hidden agendas and or bury intellectuals in laws once perfect becoming societies downfall (loss of civilisation). Entrepreneurially multiplying upward exponentials can bring freedom and happiness but if we fail to understand risks over time of one exponential that turns downwards this "zeroising multiplier" can cause chain reactions of collapse. But for now let's concentrate on optimistic ways forward for advancing the human lot Watt started to generate

• how can engines move and build things or people in thousands or billions of times more powerful ways than a horse
• is it possible to build big cities (multiple millions of people sharing innovations not just towns of 50000 people or village life)
• what utility grids can link people with energy they or their machines need and telecommunibcations systems the more the world links independence with interdependence
• and from the mid 20th century post-indsutrial questions such as how will humans use machines that become a trillion timese faster with numbers than an individual human brain 

Together Smith and Watt can be argued to have started something amazing. Wherever people, families, communities.. connected round these questions and made improvements regions advanced from rural subsistence to up to 100 times more wealth and heath by the start of the 20th century. Yet all the while, never forget that rural resources are where nature's seasons typically start each annual cycle of growing food, and trees and animals  provided case is taken for natural ecosystem such as how water flows in suitably local and cleansing ways. 

Health is discovered to generate strong economies not vice versa- quite simply because healthiest and safest cooperation spaces increase life expectancy to the high 60s and over. This can mean education beyond the start of adolesence is a place's greatest freedom as well as its opportunity to win-win trade. Unlike cosuming up things whihc is a so-caled zero sum game actionable knowhow networking ultiplies valu in use taking futures way above zero-sum professionals scorekeeping. Timewise this may mean families trees sharing uniquely community-building skills across 3 generations or more. It can increase the productive years of the typical human body and mind to 50 years or more of "adult" experiential learning and community building

 For questioning the future of markets and engineering from the start of  the industrial revolution. Scots (and soon a majority Diaspora who emigrated living outside their homeland) had a unique viewpoint, not just from a high latitude. They had been colonized in the 1700s by the island (capital city London)  that over several generations became the largest empire remapping the world to the middle of the  1800s mainly for its own greatness – the place brand slogan: rule Britannia , Britannia rules the waves, britons never never never shall be slaves indicates how win-lose this trading system mapping could  be. In the case of Scots they may never have been slaves but some were press ganged -and the Westminster Parliament's taxes and laws had little if any flow with their local livelihoods across generations.

 Fazle Abed’s life search (accidentally or consciously) provides a 2 century update of questions Smith and Watt alumni mediated. Soon after world war 2, Britain disappeared from ruling the India subcontinent leaving a place partitioned into India and 2 Pakistans with West Pakistan ruling East Pakistan. There was no geographical contingency to this mapping – rather it was a faith based one demanded by the Aga Khan (the region’s most powerful Muslim family). 

Fazle Abed came to Glasgow from the colonised East Pakistan representing one of that place’s leading families historically. He came to graduate in ship engineering.
